PTA Event Reports
Thanks to all who have supported us over the last year and we look forward to meeting anyone who would like to get involved, give a small amount of their time each month and support the school going forward. A special welcome to any new parents from this year’s new intake. We need new parents to join us and keep the association going and help raise as much as we can for the school for the coming year. Come along and see what you can offer, we’re always open to new fund-raising ideas and you don’t need to commit to every month.
Cake sales have got off to a great start with both Year 4 and 3 on the first two weeks raising almost £100 each and Early Year’s last week almost £170! We have two non- uniform days for Xmas Fayre and another one for Children in Need in November. Two boxes of ink cartridges and toners have been sent back and one of the new early years mum’s has set up with another company to collect old cartridges from her workplace too.
Most recent news!
It’s been a busy old start to the new term since coming back in September. We’ve had our first committee meeting where lots of new faces turned up, held our AGM and had our event planning meeting. Our third Bingo night on 12th October was our best yet with 76 people attending and raising £510 profit! Again lots of early years parents which was great to see.
We also arranged a Bags2school collection for mid Oct and it was our best one to date with 320kg being collected and cheque received for £124!… that is the same weight as two adult Panda bears! This half term we have decided to rest the sponsored bounce and replace with a “Matchbox Challenge”. Sponsor forms, matchboxes and items list all went on last day of term. We had 50 entries back across all year groups and raised a massive £456! Well done to everyone who took part. The highest number of items was 88!
The designs for Xmas tea towels have been sent in and we will have them out for next month. These will be in year groups and will make fantastic Xmas presents for family and grandparents. We have non uniform days on 2nd and 30th November for bottle and sweet tombola for Xmas Fayre, which will be on Friday 7th December this year. Once again as a PTA we have fully funded Chaplin’s Theatre Company coming to see us in January for a panto on Wednesday 9th, this year is Treasure Island.
After the success of last year’s event, we have re-booked Magician Carl for end of January for another afternoon of magic. We are also looking at booking a proper DJ with lights and speakers for Valentine’s Disco in February.
We entered the Leighton Buzzard Carnival again last Summer, unfortunately we didn’t win again this year but we did get Doreen Rolls Memorial Shield the “most enthusiastic award” for second year running! Miss Farmer has said she won’t be running the event this year so hopefully someone else will step in and take on the organising as it’s an event the school enjoy getting involved in and we do tend to do quite well.
We have been busy spending our Council grant funds we secured for our Eco Garden. Recent purchases have included compost, bulbs and watering cans. We have had a mini greenhouse donated too and will be putting that into full use in the Spring next year. Ms Fitzpatrick has a crazy idea about making a door for it out of plastic bottles! Watch this space…..
Our Xmas Fayre will be on Friday 7th December from 3-5pm – please come along for some festive fun and support the school in what is our second biggest fund raising event. If you have anything or know anyone who could donate a raffle prize then please speak to school reception.
